Terms & Conditions

The overarching terms that govern any use of the Security Shift UK website and platform, whether as a visitor, Officer, or Company.

1. About us and the platform

Security Shift UK Ltd ("we", "us", "the platform") operates a technology marketplace that connects UK businesses ("Companies") requiring temporary security cover with independent, self-employed SIA-licensed security operatives ("Officers"). We are not an employer, employment business, or employment agency. We do not supply labour and we do not exercise direction or control over Officers.

By creating an account or otherwise using the platform you agree to these Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use the platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract in England and Wales. Officers must hold a current and valid SIA licence for every role they accept and must be entitled to work in the United Kingdom. Companies must be a registered business or a sole trader with a legitimate need for security cover.

3. Nature of the contract

When a Company posts a shift and an Officer accepts it, a direct contract for services is formed between that Company and that Officer. Security Shift UK is not a party to that contract. We facilitate discovery, matching, communication, timesheeting, invoicing and payment as agent for the parties.

Officers are self-employed and are responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, professional insurance where required, pension arrangements and any statutory registrations. Companies remain responsible for site-specific risk assessment, supervision and statutory health and safety duties.

4. Fees and payment

Companies are charged the agreed hourly rate for the confirmed shift, plus a platform fee shown at the point of posting. Payment is taken via our payment provider, Stripe, and held pending confirmed sign-off of the shift.

Officers receive their agreed rate less any Instant Pay fee they opt into. Standard settlement is within 5 working days of verified sign-off; Instant Pay releases funds within approximately 30 minutes for a 5% fee.

5. Cancellations

Cancellation charges are calculated by reference to the notice given before the rostered start time:

  • 24 hours or more notice — no cancellation charge for either party.
  • Officer cancels between 12 and 24 hours before start — £25 admin charge.
  • Officer cancels between 2 and 12 hours before start — 50% of rostered pay.
  • Officer cancels within 2 hours of start (or fails to attend) — full rostered pay is treated as a no-show and recorded against the Officer's reliability score.
  • Company cancels within 24 hours of the rostered start — 100% of the rostered pay is owed to the Officer.

6. Ratings, reviews and reliability

Officers and Companies may rate each other after each shift. Ratings feed the Officer's reliability score alongside attendance and incident data. We may suspend or remove accounts that fall persistently below platform standards.

7. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, our aggregate liability to any user in any 12-month period is limited to the platform fees paid by that user in the same period.

We are not liable for the acts or omissions of Officers or Companies, for losses arising from a Company's failure to meet its statutory duties, or for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate any account for breach of these Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, the Compliance Policy, or where required by law. Officers and Companies may close their account at any time; open shifts, invoices, disputes and cancellation charges remain payable.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

This document was drafted by Security Shift UK for its own marketplace operations. It is provided in good faith and reflects our current policies, but it is not legal advice. Users engaging in significant commercial activity on the platform should take their own professional advice. Contact legal@securityshiftuk.com with any questions.
